Will veteran running back Nick Chubb take the field when the Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium on Sunday to take on the Las Vegas Raiders?

Chibb, who did not play in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with a rib injury, was listed as questionable on the final injury report. According to KPRC 2 Sports Aaron Wilson, the former All-Pro runner plans on playing in Week 16, even if his snap count is low against the 2-11 Raiders.

Chubb, who signed a one-year deal this offseason worth $2 million, has seen his rep count diminish over the past several games. In Week 14's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Chubb only carried the ball one time for a gain of three yards.

Even before that, the former Cleveland Browns star only totaled 18 carries for 101 yards and averaged 4.3 yards per attempt.

Houston could be wise to let Chubb see limited action rest since Jahwar Jordan posted a career-high 101-yard performance in Sunday's win over Arizona. Going up against a bottom-10 run defense, the Texans need a healthy duo in Chubb and Woody Marks for Week 17's bout with the Los Angeles Chargers and the postseason.

#Texans expect currently and have throughout week that Nick Chubb will return from rib injury, per sources, along with Christian Kirk (illness). Jordan, who was signed to the active roster following Sunday's game, became the first running back to rush for over 100 yards while averaging a season-high 6.8 yards per carry. He also finished with two runs of over 20 yards, including one for a 49-yard gain.

"Whoever's at the running back position it’s all going to be, first and foremost, about our offensive line, our tight ends and how we're blocking the line of scrimmage. Our backs, we know anybody who touches the football they can be dynamic, they can make plays for us," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Wednesday. "But it's going to be about how we handle the front. The Raiders have a really good defensive front. They do a great job of attacking and causing disruption in the run game. It's going to be a challenge to run the ball versus this Raiders defense.”

This season in 12 games, Chubb ranks second on the Texans in rush attempts (115), yards (472), yards per game (40.1) and touchdowns (3).

The Texans kick off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. With a win, Houston would secure its third double-digit winning season under Ryans and Stroud. The Texans would also nearly be a lock to make the playoff, per the New York Times' prediction odds, which has the back-to-back AFC South champions as a 98 percent favorite with a victory.
