When Chennai Super Kings host Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday in their final home fixture of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, all eyes will be searching for MS Dhoni in the dugout.
According to a report in the Indian Express, at around 6:30 PM on match eve, Dhoni emerged from the dressing room in full batting gear and made his way toward the indoor facility, and for the first time in a considerable while, no trainer was by his side.
After a brief warm-up involving stretching and mobility work, he waited roughly fifteen minutes before stepping into the nets. What followed was a thirty-minute batting session alongside Prashant Veer, where Dhoni faced throwdowns before taking on spinners, hitting several deliveries cleanly over the ropes.
By 7:30 PM, he was gone, back into the dressing room, leaving everyone watching with more to think about than before.
An old quote from Dhoni has been circulating heavily among the fans. “Hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai," he said back in 2021.
The speculation was further stoked by former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who said in a video that he had heard Dhoni had been fit and available for the past several games already.
“I have a feeling that against Sunrisers Hyderabad, there is a good chance of MS Dhoni playing,” Ashwin said.
