Indianapolis Colts' defensive tackle DeForest Buckner will not play on Sunday against Seattle.
Head coach Shane Steichen announced on Wednesday that Buckner will not be activated from injured reserve.
This was Buckner's first week back at practice. He was placed on injured reserve before the Colts' Week 10 game against Atlanta with a neck injury.
By returning to practice on Wednesday of this week, that opened a 21-day window for Buckner to be added back to the 53-man roster. He can be activated at any point during that timeframe once he's medically cleared to do so.
On Thursday, Buckner discussed the injury that landed him on injured reserve.
“I came in on (Oct. 22) to lift in the morning and I couldn’t even do a push-up," Buckner said. "Kind of lost all strength in my left side. That’s when we got the scan and found out that I had a herniated disc that was pressing on a nerve that kind of affected all that.”
Without Buckner, veteran Chris Wormley has rounded out the Colts' defensive tackle rotation, playing alongside of Grover Stewart, Adetomiwa Adebawore, and Neville Gallimore.
Even with missing the last several games, Buckner is still second on the team in quarterback pressures. According to PFF, he also ranks 18th among his position group league-wide in run defense tackles, and again, does so while having missed time.
