Texas Tech has NiJaree Canady to thank for reaching a second consecutive Championship Series in the Women's College World Series.

While she's struggled at times during this Championship Series run, her mere presence has helped turn the Red Raiders into a softball powerhouse. The two-way star is Division I's active leader in career ERA (1.04) with over 100 wins and 1,000 strikeouts to her name. She powered Texas Tech to the Championship Series last season, pitching a complete game in a Game 2 win.

This season on the mound, Canady ranks seventh nationally in strikeouts (249), 17th in ERA (1.85) and fourth in wins (29). She's one of the sport's most unhittable pitchers with a fastball that hits a blistering 75 mph.

Let's get into what we know about Canady and how she's compensated.

Is Canady the highest-paid NCAA softball player?

She sure is. Canady signed a historic $1 million deal with Texas Tech after transferring from Stanford in 2024. She earned another seven-figure deal the following year.

Why is Canady the highest-paid player?

Because Texas Tech wanted to win and prove a point in the process. Canady's arrival signaled a changing of the tide for Tech softball. The Red Raiders immediately became a contender willing to spend whatever it takes to reach the ultimate prize. It's no coincidence Mia Williams and Kaitlyn Terry made high-profile transfers after Canday. The strategy has clearly worked, as the Red Raiders are on the doorstep of a championship once again.
