The Seattle Mariners made one of the most surprising promotions you're going to see on Tuesday.

Seattle took to X and announced that outfielder Curtis Washington Jr. was promoted all the way up from High-A Everett to the big leagues to replace the injured Randy Arozarena.

"Welcome to the Show, Curtis Washington Jr.! We’ve selected OF Curtis Washington Jr. from the Everett AquaSox and he will be making his MLB debut when he makes his first appearance."

Washington is 26 years old and was slashing .190/.280/.394 with a .674 OPS, seven homers, 22 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, and eight doubles in 44 games played. It was a surprising move, to say the least. But the Mariners simply needed a bench option for the night. They got that in Washington and then optioned him back down to High-A.

At the end of the day, it was a good story having the 26-year-old up in the big leagues for a day. But it was just an emergency bench situation.
