The Jacksonville Jaguars' plan for Travis Hunter this season is for him to be a "full-time" cornerback and a "part-time" wide receiver.

Ian Rapoport reiterated this earlier in the week, but it's not something that hasn't already been reported on. As Rapoport said, the NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported on this back in February.

Even before that, GM James Gladstone alluded to Hunter playing more cornerback this upcoming season in his press conference at the end of the 2025 season.

"Obviously at this point," Gladstone said in January, "walking into the offseason, corner is a position that we have a few guys who are on expiring contracts. So by default, you can expect there to be a higher emphasis on his (Hunter's) placement."

Gladstone's response, in large part, highlights why Hunter will be seeing more snaps at cornerback.

A key factor in this decision comes down to roster construction. At wide receiver, with Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and Brian Thomas Jr. leading the way, Hunter playing that side of the ball full-time isn't a requirement.

But at cornerback, his presence is much more needed. With Jourdan Lewis in the slot and Montaric Brown outside, if Hunter weren't going to play cornerback full-time, as of now, either Jarrian Jones or Christian Braswell would be starting opposite of Brown.

Given the current state of each of those position groups, Hunter can have a greater impact on defense.

However, while that is where the bulk of his snaps may come from, make no mistake about it, the Jaguars plan to continue playing him both ways, but it would appear that the snap count allocation will be different than what it was in 2025. And that is the flexibility that having Hunter on the roster provides.
