It was only right that one of the world's top scorers scored a goal in the World Cup.

Erling Haaland found the net not once, but twice in his World Cup debut on Tuesday, June 16. The Manchester City star tapped the ball in for Norway during a fast-paced play in Group I against Iraq and then, on a later play, he outsmarted the goalkeeper and pushed the ball into the net for a brace.

Haaland was the fastest player to notch several scoring marks in the Premier League. He currently has 112 goals in the top tier of English soccer and was the youngest player to reach 50 and 100 goals. In the 2022-23 season, he broke the Premier League record with 36 goals in one season.

Why does Erling Haaland's World Cup jersey say 'Braut Haaland?'

Erling Haaland has "Braut Haaland" written on the back of his Norway World Cup jersey to honor his parents. Braut is his mother's maiden name and Haaland is his father's last name.

The striker's mother, Gry Marita Braut, was a track and field star and an accomplished heptathlete. His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, was also a successful soccer player and spent time with Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Manchester City as a defender.
