The WNBA has officially suspended Phoenix Mercury superstar forward Alyssa Thomas has been suspended for a game after "recklessly making contact with her fist to the throat area of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark," per the league.
Upon review, the WNBA determined the incident worthy of a Flagrant Foul 2 penalty and a one-game suspension, which Thomas will serve on Saturday as Phoenix plays in Toronto against the Tempo.
The league called Thomas' contact "a non-basketball act" on Clark.
The moment has gone viral, with Fever coach Stephanie White, who worked with Thomas with the Connecticut Sun for a few seasons, calling the moment "dangerous" and "egregious."
There is no word yet on if the Mercury will appeal the suspension.
