The Philadelphia Eagles have finally found their new offensive coordinator, but he isn't the experienced option many expected.
The Eagles are hiring Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator, marking a fast rise for the coach. Mannion was a player in the NFL not too long ago, and now lands one of the higher-profile offensive coordinator jobs in the league.
"It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said. Who is Sean Mannion?
Mannion played college football at Oregon State from 2010 to 2014, starting 47 games over the course of four seasons. Mannion had over 13,000 passing yards and 83 touchdowns in his college career, as he led the PAC-12 in those categories during the 2013 season.
The then-St. Louis Rams drafted Mannion in the third round of the 2015 draft, as they used pick No. 89 on the quarterback. Mannion spent the next four seasons as part of the Rams organization, including the organization's move to Los Angeles, playing in 10 games but never recording a touchdown pass.
Mannion went on to join the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 free agency, and he spent the next three seasons with the team. Mannion played in four games for the Vikings, starting two and throwing just one touchdown.
Mannion finished his career in 2022 and 2023 with the Seattle Seahawks' and Vikings' practice squads, but he never played in a game those years. Mannion retired in 2024, immediately joining the Packers as an offensive assistant.
It took just one year with Green Bay for the Packers to promote Mannion to quarterbacks coach in 2025. Now, Mannion is in his third year as a coach and has already risen to an offensive coordinator.
