Team USA's mixed doubles curling team rallied for a last-gasp 9-8 semifinal win over Italy — after losing to the reigning gold medalists earlier Monday — and is guaranteed at least a silver medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
It's a remarkable ascent for the Americans after U.S. pairs went a combined 5-11 in mixed doubles round-robin play at the previous two Olympics, failing to advance to the knockout round in Beijing or Pyeongchang.
Thiesse and Dropkin will meet brother-sister duo Rasmus and Isabella Wranaa of Sweden, who upset Great Britain, the top seed coming out of round-robin play, 9-3 in the semis after scoring five in the sixth end. Sweden took bronze in 2022, albeit with a different team.
