Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain had his Rookie of the Year campaign cut short as he had to undergo surgery on a lateral tear in the meniscus in his left knee. He was stellar in 23 games averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds before going down with the injury.
With that being said, McCain was phenomenal in those 23 games and was the clear front runner for Rookie of the Year. The Sixers were able to get a lot of production out of such a young player and were able to lean on him even at times on the offensive end of the floor. It gives Philadelphia a bright future with a backcourt of McCain and Tyrese Maxey.
While he wasn't able to win Rookie of the Year--that honor went to San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle--McCain was able to receive a third-place vote for his production. He finished tied for 7th in the race for the award.
The Sixers will now have hope that McCain can return fully healthy and have him join Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George as the team's core.
