With only four weekend series remaining in the regular season and less than a month from the 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama continues to scuffle.
By squandering a 5-1 lead in Thursday's series opener against LSU in Baton Rouge and falling again Friday, Alabama (31-10 overall, 9-9 SEC) assured itself of a third straight series loss in SEC play.
It wasn't all a wash for Rob Vaughn's team, though. Alabama bounced back for a 7-4 win in Saturday's series finale at Alex Box Stadium, and the Crimson Tide have what should be a soft landing this week when the Missouri Tigers come to Tuscaloosa for three games. At 0-18, Mizzou has yet to win a single game in SEC play this week.
Alabama's strong strength of schedule saw the Tide rise three spots to No. 9 in RPI this week.
After another 2-2 week that included a 5-3 win over UAB in midweek play, Alabama fell three spots to No. 18 in D1 Baseball's new Top 25 rankings Monday. Oklahoma (29-10), Arizona (28-11) and West Virginia (34-4) were the three teams that jumped the Crimson Tide in those rankings.
Alabama fell three more spots in Baseball America's updated rankings and five spots in Perfect Game's rankings and are barely inside the Top 25. The Tide are ranked No. 24 by Baseball America -- one spot below TCU (29-12) and one spot ahead of No. 25 Georgia Tech (29-11) -- and No. 25 by Perfect Game.
The Texas Longhorns (33-5) were a unanimous No. 1 for the second straight week in Monday's Top 25 rankings after sweeping Auburn, while a new team rose to No. 2. The Clemson Tigers (35-7) moved into the second spot after winning another ACC series over the weekend against a Top 25 Louisville team.
North Carolina (31-9) rose to No. 3 in Baseball America's rankings and to No. 8 in D1 Baseball, which had Oregon State (30-7) at No. 3. With their series win over Alabama, LSU (34-7) climbed four spots to No. 4 in Baseball America and seven spots to No. 3 in Perfect game. D1 Baseball kept the Tigers at No. 7.
The Crimson Tide's next midweek contest is Tuesday in Birmingham against the Samford Bulldogs (22-17) at Joe Lee Griffin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Four weekend series remain in regular season SEC play. Alabama hosts Missouri beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium before heading to Nashville to face Vanderbilt May 2-4.
