The NBA playoffs have arrived, starting with the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament to determine the seventh and eighth seeds.
The play-in runs over three days, with three games in each conference. Eventually, four teams will be sent to the main bracket.
The play-in wraps up Saturday, April 19, then the playoffs begin the next day.
The tournament begins Tuesday, April 15. The seventh-ranked team in each conference plays the eighth-ranked team. The winner of that game claims the seventh seed in the main bracket.
On Wednesday, the ninth-ranked team hosts the 10th-ranked team. The winner advances to a Saturday game against Tuesday's loser, and the winner of that game claims the eighth seed.
In the Eastern Conference, the teams are No. 7 Orlando, No. 8 Atlanta, No. 9 Chicago, and No. 10 Miami. In the Western Conference, the teams are No. 7 Golden State, No. 8 Memphis, No. 9 Sacramento, and No. 10 Dallas.
The NBA created a play-in tournament in the 2019-20 season during the COVID pandemic. The current format was formalized for the 2020-21 season.
Starting with the conference quarterfinals, each round is a best-of-7 in a 2-2-1-1-1 format. In other words, the higher-seeded team hosts games 1, 2, 5, and 7, with the lower-seeded team hosting games 3, 4, and 6.
The playoffs begin Sunday, April 20.
