In the quest to de-throne the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers, MLB teams have their final opportunity of the 2026 season to add star talent at the trade deadline.
The Dodgers themselves figure to be in on some of the biggest names available, but for a collection of other squads, the time to bring in reinforcements has arrived. A successful acquisition at the deadline can make-or-break a team's run to October — and especially with the American League being wide-open in 2026, new World Series favorites could emerge from this year's deals.
With the two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner being the big fish, there are plenty of trade candidates who could be on the move to greener pastures.
Here's what to know about the time of the 2026 MLB trade deadline and a few names to know.

What time is the MLB trade deadline today?
- Date: Monday, Aug. 3
- Time: 6 p.m. ET
The 2026 MLB trade deadline is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3.
It's a bit later than the 2025 deadline, which fell on July 31.
Can MLB teams trade after the deadline?
Teams cannot negotiate deals past the 6 p.m. trade deadline on Monday. News of trades may come in after the deadline has passed, but those deals were negotiated prior to the buzzer.
To be executed, deals must be agreed upon by the 6 p.m. deadline.

MLB trade rumors: Potential trade targets
Here are five of the bigger names to monitor ahead of the trade deadline.
Tarik Skubal, SP, Tigers
All eyes will be on the Skubal situation in Detroit. Over the last few years, the left-hander has emerged as one of the best starting pitchers of the modern era. As the winner of the AL Cy Young Award in each of the last two seasons, Skubal has been everything a team can want in a starter: dominant, durable and electric.
However, Skubal hasn't seen eye-to-eye with the Tigers on his pending free agency after the 2026 season, going through a high-profile arbitration case last offseason. Set to receive a likely historic payday in a few months, it appears unlikely that Detroit will be able to re-sign its star pitcher. And with the Tigers remaining below .500 in a disappointing campaign, Skubal trade rumors have run rampant.
Detroit may wind up keeping Skubal around and hope to make a playoff push in a winnable AL Central, or the Tigers could get a haul in return, building for the shorter-term future without him. If Skubal is moved, the Dodgers, Brewers, Cubs, Rays and Braves have all been connection to him.
In what will likely be a starter-heavy deadline, other potential names to monitor include the Angels' Reid Detmers, the Tigers' Casey Mize and the Giants' Robbie Ray.

Freddy Peralta, SP, Mets
When the Mets acquired Freddy Peralta in a blockbuster offseason trade, they were hoping to land the two-time All-Star who finished high in NL Cy Young Award voting last season. That has not been the case. Peralta isn't the only one to blame for a disastrous 2026 season in Queens, but he hasn't helped, owning a 4.99 ERA and a 5-9 record over 22 starts.
With the Mets likely heading toward some level of a fire sale at the deadline, Peralta has emerged as a potential buy-low pitching option for contenders. As recently as last season, he was one of the best pitchers in baseball in Milwaukee — and the Brewers could reportedly even swoop in to bring Peralta back in town for a World Series push.
It's unlikely the Mets move on from any of their bigger stars, such as Fransisco Lindor, Juan Soto or Nolan McLean, but names like Peralta and Clay Holmes will likely be on the block.
Mason Miller, RP, Padres
The equivalent of Skubal in the market for relievers is the Padres' Mason Miller. With San Diego not out of the NL Wild-Card chase, there's no guarantee the team becomes a seller. At the same time, however, the Padres have disappointed to the extent that they may consider trading the best reliever in MLB this season.
Miller has been historically great, owning a miniscule 0.79 ERA and 28 saves while consistently throwing over 100 mph to hitters. He would also come with plenty of club control, not set to hit free agency until after the 2029 season.
For those reasons, the Padres could get a massive return for Miller, who would instantly fortify a contender's bullpen for the ninth inning of big games. But San Diego might also keep Miller around and hope for better 2027 results.
Other top relievers who could be traded include the Padres' Adrian Morejon and the Blue Jays' Jeff Hoffman.

Luis Arraez, 2B, Giants
There aren't many big bats who appear available at this year's trade deadline, but for a team in need of an elite bat-to-ball contributor and versatile defender, Luis Arraez will almost certainly be moved by the Giants. With San Francisco struggling in 2026, but Arraez hitting .331 and playing on a one-year deal, he's become a clear trade candidate.
Arraez won't bring any power to a new lineup, but he's ranked among MLB's hits leaders for years. The modern game hasn't valued his skillset much — but with Arraez also playing a nice second base for the Giants this season, the four-time All-Star can be a clean fit with any team needing infield help.
Other infielders who could be traded include Tigers second baseman Gleybor Torres, Angels shortstop Zach Neto and Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. In the outfield, names like the Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho, the Orioles' Taylor Ward and the Rockies' Jake McCarthy are candidates.
Ryan Jeffers, C, Twins
It's not often there are more than a handful of solid, starting-level catchers up for grabs at the trade deadline, but 2026 appears to be an exception. The big star among catchers would be the Rockies' Hunter Goodman, who's also become one of the game's top power threats. However, the most likely catcher to be moved may be the Twins' Ryan Jeffers.
As an impending free agent, Jeffers has a .293/.395/.535 line with his bat this season despite missing time with an injury. However, with the Twins hanging around in the wild-card picture, they may also stand pat.
Other bigger-name catchers who could be moved include the Reds' Tyler Stephenson, the Mets' Francisco Alvarez and the Orioles' Adley Rutschman.
