WEST LAFAYETTE — Kenneth Lowe will make $200,000 in his first season as a full-time Purdue men’s basketball assistant coach.
Matt Painter hired Lowe in April to complete his staff after the departure of Terry Johnson. Lowe, who played for the Boilermakers from 1999-2004, previously served as an assistant at Miami (Ohio) and St. Thomas.
IndyStar obtained Lowe’s offer of employment through a public records request. The document does not specify a length of term, saying only the coach’s employment will be reviewed periodically by Painter and athletic director Mike Bobinski.
If terminated without cause within one year of hire, Lowe would be owed one month’s salary: $16,667.66. If terminated without cause after one year, he would be owed $50,000 (three month’s salary).
Lowe was a two-time Big Ten defensive player of the year for the Boilermakers in 2003-04. After his professional career oversees he began his coaching career as an assistant video coordinator on Painter's staff.
Lowe’s hire brings the known salaries for Painter’s five assistants to $1.725 million. The university has not yet released documents detailing any compensation increase for P.J. Thompson following his promotion to associate head coach.

Other salaries for the 2025-26 season per the university’s athletic department salary listing included Brandon Brantley ($500,000), Paul Lusk ($475,000), Thompson ($400,000) and Sasha Stefanovic ($150,000). Johnson made $325,000 last season.
Painter made $4.125 million last season and is scheduled to make $4.325 million this season. He will receive a $250,000 retention bonus if employed on Sept. 1.
