It's not a secret that the Washington Commanders are short on wide receivers. Terry McLaurin isn't the only receiver on the roster, but he is the clear leader in that room. He is always going to be WR1 as long as he is with Washington, so what the Commanders need is someone to take the attention away from McLaurin to spread out defenses.

There have been talks about San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk landing in Washington, but without a clear timeline, the Commanders are still likely to draft a wide receiver next month. General manager Adam Peters was asked about the receiver room at the coaches' breakfast on Monday.

"Really, I think every room is a room we'd still like to add, I mean, it's March 30th right now," Peters began. "But in terms of that room specifically, obviously, we have Terry. Terry's the number one receiver. We brought Treylon (Burks) back, which I'm excited about. I think he's got another level he can go to. He showed us a lot when he was at practice and in the games when he was able to make some plays there. Luke (McCaffrey) and Jaylin (Lane) are another couple of guys that are a year older that we're excited about. And then bringing Dyami (Brown) back and Van (Jefferson), we have a couple of young guys in there, too. So, I like the room right now, but I think that everywhere we have a lot of time to add before we play in September."

Obviously, Peters is never going to say he's not happy with any of the position rooms at this point in the game. Every player knows that they have to earn their spot on a roster, and the guys in the Commanders locker room know that the team is going to add more talent anywhere it can. But, specifically, the wide receivers' room needs to add more talent. The gap between McLaurin and the rest of the room is massive, and no defense is going to be fooled by the Commanders' intentions. Plus, what happens if McLaurin misses time as he did in 2025?

Again, because there's no clear timeline on when Aiyuk will be available, look for the Commanders to draft a wide receiver. It will likely be one of their first two picks because they need a player who can make defenses think twice before doubling up on Terry McLaurin.
