Not unexpectedly, Jacksonville Jaguars' free agent running back Travis Etienne will be playing elsewhere in 2026.
Etienne has reportedly signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the New Orleans Saints.
So what does this mean forthe Jaguars at the running back position moving forward?
The Jaguars aren't left high and dry by any means with Etienne's departure. GM James Gladstone did prepare for this by selecting Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen in the 2025 NFL draft.
Tuten brings impressive speed, along with pass-catching abilities to the position, while Allen was excellent in pass protection as a rookie.
If the Jaguars had to go into the upcoming season with those two leading the way, they wouldn't be in a bad spot.
Now, having said that, we should remain on the lookout for additions at running back -- even in free agency.
For one, more depth is needed. The only running backs under contract are Tuten, Allen, DeeJay Dallas, and Ja'Quinden Jackson.
In addition to that, this is a relatively inexperienced room. Tuten, Allen, and Jackson are only entering their second NFL seasons. Tuten and Allen, while they saw playing time, were more so rotational players as rookies. Dallas, meanwhile, isn't going to be a lock by any means to make the team.
There are two free-agent running backs with ties to Liam Coen. We also recently took a look at some running back prospects in the NFL draft that could interest the Jaguars.
To play the running back position in Coen's offense, behind making plays as a ball carrier, the ability to move around the formation, operate in space, and impact the passing game are musts.
