The Arrival is a very good movie.

Get Out should be on my honorable mentions. Still haven't see Sinners, the downside of having a 10 year old but my expectations is it leaps into my top 4. I think Mad Max Fury Road has some good action scenes but overall I don't want to rewatch any Mad Max movies.

I actually actively dislike all the Mission Impossible movies to the point I stopped watching like 5 years ago. It's the Fast and Mission Furious Impossible. The same movie every time.

Your final 4 havent seen, only heard of poor things.
The last two Mission movies have been pretty weak, but if you haven't seen Fallout, you're missing out. And what I think distinguishes those movies to a ridiculous degree over the Fast movies is the action/stunts are ALL practical. There's no CGI - the absolutely ludicrous crap Ethan Hunt is doing in that movie is literally Tom Cruise doing it in the movie. Sure, there's wires and safety measures taken, but watching the behind the scenes featurette especially on Fallout really opened my eyes to just how special the action in those movies were and if you're an action junkie, there's nothing better.

You've never heard of Spotlight? Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Live Schrieber story of Boston Herald investigating the Catholic Church Pedoflie scandal in the early 2000s that won Best Picture? It's riveting.

Poor Things admittedly isn't for everyone. Lady Bird probably isn't either. Holdovers is definitely a sleeper.

Favorite all time movie not even close Jaws. Scared the piss out of me as a kid, I was 9 when it came out.

Comedy, tons of them 2 I really love that are less popular Fletch, talk about a quotable movie, and Crazy People, utterly hilarious. Stripes was probably the most popular comedy when I was in HS I think it's funny but not even close to my top 10. Beverly Hills Cop the first one is a classic.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre the scene where Leatherface opens the door grabs the guy pulls him inside just such a jump out of your seat moment. Saw it in HS and literally the entire theater bolted up when that happened.

The Warriors has to be on the list not a great movie but iconic, if you grew up when I grew up you saw that movie over and over. Cable was somewhat new it left the theaters pretty quickly because of all the rumors of gang violence if you attended the movie, but it was cable forever

Deliverance, again scared the crap out of me.

If you're ever thinking of smuggling drugs from a foreign country go see Midnight Express will change your mind.

ALso have to say in the if you grew up when I did list, Rocky, Predator, Terminator

Se7en was great too

I LOVE The Warriors. And what's hilarious is that most men around my age (52) love it and every other age group and all woman think it's ridiculously stupid. I've seen it countless times. One of my favorite movies and probably my favorite score of all time.

So I did a list of my favorite underrated movies/movies a lot of my friends have never seen and it goes like this:

1. The Postman--1997--Kevin Costner--has Tom Petty also. My fav post apocalyptic movie. Great watch if you've never seen it.

2. Rob Roy--1995--early Liam Neeson--also Jessica Lange--Tim Roth--Eric Stolltz--John Hurt--based on true Scottish folk hero--braveheart kind of time and setting--Liam was doing revenge films long ago.

3. Road to Perdition--2002---Tom Hanks--also Roger Craig--Jude Law--Paul Newman--Stanley Tucci--Jennifer Jason Leigh--great movie--different character for Hanks but he nails it.

4. Quigley Down Under---1990---Tom Selleck-- also Alan Rickman--western set in Australia

5. Hidalgo---2004---Viggo Mortenson---also Omar Shariff---J K Simmons---C Thomas Howell--horse racing--western--set in Arabia

6. Phenomenon---1996---John Travolta---also Kyra Sedgwick---Forest Whitaker--Robert Duvall---great romance/sci fi/acting

I Made a list of 25 so this is just a sample, if you haven't seen some of these and are like me, always looking for a good movie, try some f them.

At work one day when I was at JLL onsite at Google one of my co workers like 25 years old we were talking about something and I asked him if he'd ever seen it and he said "hell yeah that movie is dope." I was amazed because yes most people I meet younger than me, or women, think it's stupid.

My biggest objection to that movie is that Swan not Cleon is the "hero." Cleon is the war chief who gets grabbed by the Rifs after Cyrus gets shot, he's easily the only guy in the gang who looks like he could have actually been in a gang,

Yeah, he was badass...took several of them down before they started dropping the barrage of elbows.

I've read a LOT about the filming of it. They had to film at night and it was sooo dangerous because real gang members kept interrupting filming.

For my birthday this year, my son bought me a Warriors jacket lol. But my wife said I'm only allowed to wear it out of the house on Halloween.

yep there's a bunch of backstories about the gangs being pissed at them. I guess the original Cyrus no showed or something so they replaced him with a classically trained(like Shakespeare) actor who nailed the "Can You Dig It." FOX was supposed to be a much bigger part but the actor was a jerk and Walter Hill eventually wrote him out he gets hit by the Subway train. I actually wrote at least 2 papers on that movie when I was in college.

Another movie I forgot was the Breakfast Club, same thing I wrote a paper on that movie in school.

Yep, exactly. The gang member backed out at the list minute and that dude nailed one of the most iconic lines of all time!

Regarding Fox, if you slow down the scene where he get's tossed on the track, it's very obvious it's not even him...it's a double. Hill was completely done with him lol.

And did you know the reason Mercy wears a jacket during the 2nd half of the film was because she broke her arm? That's why they added the line, "hey where'd you get that jacket?", "I stole it!"

And then you mentioned my favorite teen movie! I've seen that one countless times as well. That's another one that doesn't translate too well to the new generations. I still use quotes from this one at least monthly, if not weekly.

Russ, talk about "jump out of your seat moments". I was talking with one of my boys who's roughly my age. (57) We both agreed that maybe the 3 all time jump scare movies from that era were Carrie (graveyard scene) Friday the 13th (lake scene with Jamie Lee) and Phantasm (the BOY!! scene). Back in the day, horror movies developed a knack for making you think you were safe only to have the crap scared out of you to end it. Phantasm scarred me for the entirety of my childhood.

Yeah Phantasm definitely was like that. I saw a bunch of Friday the 13th movies I never considered it all that scary, I did like the "ch ch ha ha" background.

I should have had Halloween on the list too.

In terms of jump out of your seat, much older but Psycho when the "mom" kills her in the shower is pretty intense.
