The Detroit Tigers had plenty to celebrate on Independence Day.
Following Saturday’s 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers, manager A.J. Hinch gathered his team inside the clubhouse to deliver news that three players had been waiting to hear. Catcher Dillon Dingler, shortstop Kevin McGonigle, and outfielder Riley Greene had officially been selected to the American League All-Star team.
The Tigers later shared the emotional moment on social media, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at Hinch revealing the honors.
While announcing the selections, Hinch highlighted what each player has meant to Detroit this season.
“He’s had one day off, been a staple in our lineup, Riley Greene.”
He then turned his attention to Dingler, whose breakout campaign has earned widespread praise around baseball.
“First Tiger catcher in 15 years to make the All-Star team and the sixth in the last 50, Dillon Dingler.”
Hinch saved his final announcement for the youngest member of the trio.
“I saved the youngster for last… now he gets to go home to Philadelphia… Kevin McGonigle.”
For Greene, the selection marks his third consecutive All-Star appearance, further cementing his place among the American League’s top outfielders. Dingler and McGonigle, meanwhile, will both make their All-Star debuts after outstanding first halves.
The trio was selected as reserve players through a combination of player voting and the Commissioner’s Office, continuing an impressive trend for Detroit. The Tigers have now produced multiple All-Stars in three straight seasons after sending two players in 2024 and six in 2025.
The 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, July 14, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, where three of Detroit’s brightest stars will represent the organization on baseball’s biggest summer stage.
