With just over a week remaining before the start of the 2026 NBA draft, ESPN's Jeremy Woo projected a new landing spot for former Washington Huskies star Hannes Steinbach.
Woo placed the 6-foot-10 German forward, who averaged 18.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game during his one year on Montlake, which earned him All-Big Ten Third Team and All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors, to be selected with the No. 15 overall pick by the Chicago Bulls. As the draft cycle comes to a close, Steinbach has become a popular name in the back half of the lottery.
"Although Steinbach's predraft workout process has been quiet, he has drawn interest in the back half of the lottery, with his range running into the teens," Woo wrote. "He was helped by his combine measurements, which affirmed that he has adequate size to play center, even if he isn't a vertically gifted shot blocker. He would represent a ready-now addition for the Bulls."
"In their first offseason under new leadership, the Bulls have cap space at their disposal and have signaled to other teams that they are open to all types of moves, including with this selection. By draft night, Chicago will have brought in nearly every prospect projected between this pick and their second selection at No. 15, giving them great familiarity with players in their range."
After trading center Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics, who was the team's leading rebounder on the year averaging 9 boards per game, Chicago is looking for some help on the glass and Steinbach, who UW head coach Danny Sprinkle compared to a Bulls legend, would be an ideal addition.
"If he gets his hands on it, he's getting it," Sprinkle said of Steinbach's ability as a rebounder before the 2025 season. "I don't want to say he's Dennis Rodman, but just how some guys always have a knack to be around the basketball, that's what he is."
The first round of the NBA draft is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, at 5:00 p.m. PT.
