Warriors trade proposal brings in Joel Embiid, and the reason makes perfect sense originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
We know that the Golden State Warriors have been trying to land some very good players in recent weeks, so there's reason to believe that similar things could happen if another superstar becomes available.
Of course, the Warriors are in the mix for LeBron James at the moment, and there have been some rumblings about potentially landing Anthony Davis.
However, with the unlikelihood of Davis being traded at the moment and questions about whether James will end up in Golden State given his likely return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, I do wonder how aggressive Golden State would be if a player like Joel Embiid became available.
That's one aspect that was recently brought up, though I question how possible it would really be.
“It would have to be a team that is slightly desperate,” Bill Simmons said of potential Embiid suitors, H/T Complex. “Embiid played very well for Kerr, and he used him as a luxury. The problem is, if [Golden State] is wrong [on acquiring Embiid] then you ruin the last bullet in your gun for the Curry era.”
Simmons saying what he's saying makes a lot of sense in terms of a team that would have to be desperate to trade for Embiid.
Again, that isn't to say that Embiid isn't an elite player, but it is more due to the health issues we've seen in recent years. The Warriors would be taking a major risk here in a sense, though I think it makes sense to at least give it a shot if he ever became available.
