It's time to vote for the athlete of the week from the High Desert.

Thirteen athletes from across the region are in the running for the Joe Orthodontics High School Athlete of the Week.

Each week throughout the 2025-26 school year, the Daily Press will recognize one standout student-athlete from the High Desert as Athlete of the Week.

Through nominations submitted by coaches, as well as our own research, those selected will be placed on a ballot every week. The nominations are limited to only varsity athletes.

You can vote for your favorite high school athletes as often as you’d like. The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday night.

Here are the choices for this week, based on performances from Feb. 23 to 28.

• Alec Jimenez, Granite Hills boys soccer — Jimenez recorded three assists in two CIF State Southern California Division IV regional playoff matches. He had one assist in a 2-0 victory over Esperanza on March 3 and assisted on both goals in a 2-1 semifinal victory over Santa Ana Valley on March 5.
• Brooke Johnson, Apple Valley softball — Johnson had a big week at the plate, going 12 for 17 with two home runs, six RBIs and seven runs scored in five games. She went 4 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs against Laguna Hills on March 6 and also hit a homer against Jurupa Hills on March 3.
• Caden Wharton, Granite Hills baseball — Wharton had a big week on the mound and at the plate. He struck out nine batters over four innings against Sultana on March 5 and hit two home runs with four RBIs in a victory over CIMS on March 3. He added three RBIs in a win over Polytechnic on March 7.
• David Cabrera, Granite Hills boys soccer — Cabrera scored three goals in two CIF State Southern California Division IV regional playoff matches. He scored a goal in a 2-0 victory over Esperanza on March 3 and added both goals in a 2-1 semifinal victory over Santa Ana Valley on March 5.
• DeAnthony Dyer, Victor Valley boys basketball — Dyer averaged 15.5 points in two CIF State Southern California Division V regional playoff games. He scored 17 points in a 72-55 victory over Edgewood on March 3 and added 14 points in a 67-56 loss to Canyon in the quarterfinals on March 5.
• Lila Morris, Riverside Prep softball — Morris was dominant in the circle, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 15 batters over 11 innings in wins over Diamond Ranch on March 5 and Diamond Bar on March 6.
• LJ Borrego, Sultana baseball — Borrego struck out five batters and allowed one run over five innings in a 4-2 victory over Granite Hills on March 5. At the plate, he drove in three RBIs against Norte Vista on March 3 and drew four walks while scoring three runs in two games against Granite Hills and Rialto.
• Lux Sullivan, Oak Hills baseball — Sullivan went 8 for 10 with three RBIs, four runs scored and three stolen bases in three games. He had three hits in games against Redlands East Valley on March 5 and Chaffey on March 4, and added two hits in a win over Carter on March 2.
• Nolan Newman-Gomez, Hesperia boys basketball — Newman-Gomez recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while adding three steals in a 42-38 loss to Centennial in the first round of the CIF State Southern California Division II regional playoffs on March 3.
• Parker Nunes, Sultana baseball — Nunes delivered strong performances on the mound and at the plate. He tossed six scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a win over Rialto on March 6 and added three innings with two strikeouts against Norte Vista on March 3. At the plate, he drove in five RBIs and scored three runs over the two games.
• Steven Amaya, Serrano baseball — Amaya dominated on the mound, striking out 18 batters and allowing two hits over 10 ⅔ innings in wins over Arroyo Valley on March 3 and PACS on March 6. He also went 6 for 9 with two RBIs, three runs, three walks and two stolen bases at the plate in three games.
• Tyler Oerman, Hesperia baseball — Oerman struck out four batters and allowed two runs on two hits over 6 2/3 innings against Victor Valley on March 7. At the plate, he went 6 for 10 with an RBI, seven runs scored, a walk and a stolen base in three games.
• Victoria McGowan, Academy for Academic Excellence softball — McGowan went 5 for 8 with three RBIs and five runs scored in two games. She also stole three bases and drew two walks in a win over Granite Hills on March 5.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
