After plenty of solid sports performers over the last week, here are the Journal Star high school girls athlete of the week nominees for May 11-16, presented by CEFCU.

The senior had a big offensive output last week. Finn batted .700 (7-for-10) with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs as the Tigers went 2-1. The Creighton recruit's highlight came in a 7-3 win over Brimfield/Elmwood on Thursday, May 14. Finn went 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give IB a three-run cushion.
Illini Bluffs (17-6) heads into Class 1A postseason play with its regional opener on Tuesday, May 19.
The sophomore went 4-0 in the circle last week. Nelson began her undefeated week by throwing a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Canton on Monday, May 11. She struck out seven, walked none and was an error away from a perfect game. Nelson then claimed victories over Pekin, Limestone and LaSalle-Peru with 27 strikeouts, eight walks and scattered 11 hits over 15.1 innings. She also had two home runs, hitting one against Pekin and the other against L-P. Metamora (25-9) rides a seven-game win streak into Class 3A regional play, starting on Wednesday, May 20.
The senior was a four-event state qualifier last week. Bumber won three individual events and a relay at the Class 1A Farmington Sectional on Wednesday, May 13. She won the 100-meter (season-best 12.49 seconds) and 200-meter (26.06 seconds) dashes along with the 400-meter dash (58.23 seconds). Her fourth victory came as the No. 3 runner in the 4x100-meter relay (50.58 seconds) with Taylor Frawley, Audrey Chambers and Alison Mitchell. Those four victories helped Henry Midland (87.75 points) finish second behind Aledo Mercer County (115 points).
The sophomore won a sectional title last week. Fitzjarrald posted a personal-best triple jump effort at the Class 2A Metamora Sectional. She jumped 36 feet, 3.5 inches to win the event by 3.5 inches over Mahomet-Seymour's Hannah Martin (36-0). Fitzjarrald now has six triple jump victories this season.
The junior helped secure a conference championship last week. Ceresa scored a pair of goals as Morton beat Washington, 3-0, on Tuesday, May 12 to secure an undefeated Mid-Illini Conference season. Both of her tallies came in the second half, including one on a penalty kick. Ceresa also assisted on Madi Greiner's goal to beat Mahomet-Seymour, 1-0.
Morton (20-1-1) opens Class 2A regional play on Tuesday, May 19.
