Claremore needed less than 30 minutes to make a statement.
The Lady Zebras claimed the only set that counted Tuesday morning in the CZ Super Scrimmage with a 25-17 victory over Carl Albert at the Doug K. Mosier Athletic Complex before using the remaining time to give reserves valuable varsity experience.
Claremore opened the event with a 25-15 victory over Noble.
Each matchup at the CZ Super Scrimmage consists of a 30-minute time slot. The winner is determined by the first set, while a second timed set is played with whatever time remains.
Claremore captured the official result by taking Set 1, 25-17. The Lady Titans claimed the abbreviated second set 14-4 over the final 8 minutes and 30 seconds after the Lady Zebras rotated in several reserves.
CA finished with a 31-29 edge in total points across both sets.
Addison Doyle led Claremore in the decisive opening set with 4 kills, while Grace Baughman filled the stat sheet with 2 kills, 1 block and 1 ace. Ava Tanner and Madison Berger each added 2 kills.
The Lady Titans top performers in Set 1 were Chandler Cordray, who recorded a kill and a block assist, and Ava Wood, who contributed a kill and a block.
The Lady Zebras grabbed momentum early despite trading several service and hitting errors with CA. Baughman's ace gave Claremore a 3-1 lead before Doyle and Bella Hoisington added kills to help extend the advantage to 5-3.
The Lady Titans answered with back-to-back blocks from Cordray and Brecken Cebuleksy, followed by Wood, to pull within 6-5 before tying the set at 6.
The teams continued exchanging points until the score reached 10. Claremore then seized control.
Consecutive CA hitting errors put the Lady Zebras ahead before Doyle took over offensively. The senior hammered home three kills during a 6-1 run that stretched the lead to 16-11.
The Lady Titans never got closer than 5 points the rest of the way.
Baughman sparked another surge with a kill and a solo block before adding another kill. Tanner followed with a pair of kills to build a 22-15 advantage, and Berger's second kill of the set brought Claremore to set point before a CA hitting error sealed the 25-17 victory.
With the official result decided, the Lady Zebras substituted freely in the timed second set.
The Lady Titans capitalized, using 3 service aces and a kill from Cordray to build separation. Maggie Moore chipped in 2 kills as CA closed the shortened set on an 11-1 run to win 14-4 before time expired.
