Virginia athletic director Carla Williams announced Wednesday that football coach Tony Elliott has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season.
Elliott guided the Cavaliers to a historic 2025 campaign, finishing with a program-record 11 victories. The season included a 13-7 win over Missouri in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, marking Virginia’s first bowl victory since 2018.
Virginia posted a 7-1 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play, securing sole possession of first place in the regular-season standings for the first time in program history. The Cavaliers also earned a berth in the ACC Championship game, their first appearance since 2019.
The Cavaliers concluded the season ranked No. 16 in the final Associated Press poll, their highest finish since 1995. The team remained ranked for 12 consecutive weeks, its longest stretch since 2004. Virginia also appeared in every College Football Playoff ranking for the first time, finishing at No. 19.
Elliott received multiple honors following the season, including ACC Coach of the Year, Associated Press ACC Coach of the Year and the Bear Bryant ACC Coach of the Year award. He was also named the TD Club of Richmond Bobby Ross Coach of the Year and earned recognition as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award and a semifinalist for the Eddie Munger Award.
