The Minnesota Vikings must address their quarterback room this offseason after an uninspiring 2025 season from the position group.

J.J. McCarthy had a rough outing in his debut campaign in Minnesota after missing his entire rookie year in 2024 due to a knee injury. McCarthy tossed 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in ten starts.

It would be wise for the Vikings to add some veteran competition for McCarthy in the coming months, and CBS Sports' Jared Dubin predicts Minnesota will do so in a reunion with Kirk Cousins.

Dubin believes acquiring Cousins should be an offseason priority for the Vikings:

"Vikings need to bring in a veteran quarterback to compete with McCarthy and/or be the backup and fill-in starter in case things don't go well again. Cousins is likely set to hit free agency given his contractual situation, and we know he is familiar with both the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell's system, making this an easy, comfortable fit."

Cousins is no longer a high-level starting quarterback, but the 37-year-old can still be a viable starter and had the best seasons of his career in Kevin O'Connell's offense in Minnesota from 2018 to 2023.

The Atlanta Falconsare expected to release Cousins before the start of free agency, just two years after signing him to a $180 million contract during 2024 free agency.

Signing Cousins is a no-brainer for the Vikings if he's indeed released by the Falcons. The four-time Pro Bowler posted a 5-3 record with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight starts in 2025, and showed that he can still be a difference-maker when called upon.

Cousins would be a fantastic backup behind McCarthy, and most importantly, push the young signal-caller and put some pressure on him heading to a make-or-break 2026 season.

Additionally, Cousins will be cheap to sign on the open market, as the Vikings are $40 million under the cap and won't have much money to throw out this offseason.

Overall, a reunion between Cousins and Minnesota would be ideal for both sides, and it's a move that should happen this spring.
