After getting horrific quarterback play last season, we all know the situation in that room for the Minnesota Vikings was going to be very fluid. It did not take long for Minnesota to make a move, landing Kyler Murray on a one-year deal. But it appears that Murray maybe wasn't the top choice among the Vikings brass.
ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner is reporting that Minnesota made a push to acquire San Francisco 49er Mac Jones via trade, but the cost of Jones versus Murray was too much in the long run.
It does make you wonder what a trade might have looked like for Jones. The report was that San Francisco was likely looking for a day two pick in return for the former first-round pick. Instead, Minnesota takes a flier on Murray in hopes of revitalizing his career and developing him into their long-term starter. If that does happen, it will be fascinating to see what develops with McCarthy, and where he gets moved to.

“Then, for a team such as the Minnesota Vikings, which was believed to be Jones’ preferred destination outside of San Francisco, it was easier and cheaper to sign Kyler Murray to a league-minimum deal because of offset language in his contract, than it was to deal a pick and then potentially sign Jones to a lucrative extension.” -
