SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Rams and Rambelles look to capitalize on golden opportunities in the coming weeks.
With two regular season games remaining, the pressure increases for Angelo State Basketball. The race to qualify for tournament play becomes hotter and more tense each week.
The good news for Rambelles fans is that this team has caught fire at the right time, holding an active eight-game winning streak. This midseason surge has propelled them to an 11-5 Lone Star Conference record, tying them for the fifth seed in the eight-team tournament which begins on March 6. Until then, ASU faces two ranked teams in its final four games, starting with No. 23 Lubbock Christian Thursday night.
“We’re just going to have to be locked in,” Rambelles assistant coach Andy Ellis said. “I don’t think anything really changes for us. The funny part is I don’t know what else we could change. We’ve gone through the gamut this year trying to figure out what would work, and we found something. Now we’ve just got to ride with it and try to be as good as we can at it.”
On the Rams’ side, hopes are slim. Angelo State’s injury-plagued season is on thin ice with four games remaining as they trail three games behind the eighth and final LSC Tournament seed. Head coach Vinay Patel’s squad looks to respond following back-to-back heartbreaking road losses, in one of which Angelo State blew a 13-point lead to No. 15 St. Edward’s, eventually losing in overtime. The Rams will simply control only what they can going forward and hope for the best. It won’t be easy though, taking on No. 10 Lubbock Christian.
“I know it’s a difficult road ahead for us to get in at this stage, but we’re going to put our best foot forward and try to win the games that’s left on our schedule,” Patel said.
The Rambelles and Rams’ home matchups begin Thursday, Feb 19 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. CST, respectively.
