The U.S. women's national team is getting a shot of Triple Espresso.
Mallory Swanson is on the roster for two friendlies against Brazil next month, reuniting her with Trinity Rodman and Sophia Wilson for the first time since the Paris Olympics. The trio, dubbed "Triple Espresso," combined for 10 of the USWNT's 12 goals during the Olympic tournament, including Swanson's game-winner in the final against Brazil.
This is Swanson's first time on the USWNT roster since October 2024. She had daughter Josie in November. Wilson returned to the USWNT in April after having daughter Gigi in September.
"It’s fantastic for our team, both on and off the field, to have Trinity and our two soccer moms back on the same roster,” USWNT coach Emma Hayes said in the release announcing the 26-player roster on Wednesday, May 27.
Hayes made five changes to the roster that went 2-1 in the April friendlies against Japan. Two of the changes are because of injuries to starters Naomi Girma (calf) and Sam Coffey (knee).
While Brazil is one of the USWNT's most frequent, and fiercest, opponents, there is more to these friendlies than good competition ahead of World Cup qualifying later this year. Brazil is hosting the World Cup next year, and the trip gives the USWNT a look at two of the eight cities where games will be played.
The first game, on June 6, is in Sao Paulo. The second, on June 9, is in Fortaleza.
"We recognize the importance of preparing for World Cup qualifying and the need for the group to come together in that process," Hayes said. "This trip offers amazing opportunities for these players to experience Brazil, its culture, stadiums, and passionate fans, and especially playing the World Cup hosts.
"Few challenges in women’s international soccer compare to facing Brazil in Brazil, so we’re excited for the valuable lessons this experience will bring.”
Concacaf will send at least four teams to next year's World Cup. Qualifying is Nov. 24-Dec. 5 in Texas.
