Nine Central Texas high school baseball teams took wins Thursday in Game 1 of their best-of-three regional semifinal series in the UIL playoffs.
Here’s the roundup for the Austin area:
Class 6A Division I
Lake Travis 1, Laredo United South 0: Cooper Webb threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and Elliott Proppe singled and eventually scored in the second to give the Cavs the win. CJ Hansford doubled and Luke McBride singled for Lake Travis’ other hits.
Cedar Ridge 12, Johnson 3: Kasen Langerhans drove in four runs, Noah Olivas and Paul Hernandez Jr. both had two RBIs and Jake Shoemaker belted a run-scoring single to lead the Raiders, who took advantage of 10 walks. Sawyer Neugent struck out five and scattered five hits in five innings and Bryson Batton tossed two innings of scoreless relief to pace Cedar Ridge on the mound. Riggs Gordon also had two hits for the Raiders. Cooper Knight ripped a two-run single and Brenly Oaks tallied two hits to lead the Jaguars.
Class 6A Division II
Westlake 4, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 2: August Collard blasted a two-run homer and threw 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief, Hayes Brodhead struck out eight and allowed no earned runs in 5 ⅔ innings and Hayden Chung had an RBI triple to lead the Chaps. Jacob Dieterichs ripped a run-scoring single and both Lane Johnson and Anderson Gerault had hits in other notable offense for Westlake.
Dripping Springs 3, La Joya 2: Jason Steele’s RBI triple in the top of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and spurred the Tigers to the win. Steele finished 3-for-3 with two extra-base hits and two RBIs, Breydan Madeley had a run-scoring single and Jake Pardue finished 3-for-4 to lead the Dripping Springs offense. Cade Sanders only allowed one earned run in 4 ⅓ innings, while Nixon Badilla struck out four in 2 ⅔ innings of relief.
Class 5A Division I
Rouse 8, CC Veterans Memorial 7: Adolfo Erives’ walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh that scored Liam Mongold gave the Raiders a dramatic come-from-behind win. Rouse entered the final inning trailing 7-6, but Joe Lundeen walked and Mongold singled, then Scott Knight’s bunt produced an error by the Eagles that scored the tying run. Cristian Caro drove in two runs, Brody Sharp and Knight had RBI singles and Mason Gonzalez, Jacob Soliz and Mongold all finished with two hits for the Raiders.
Other scores: Lake Creek 3, Hendrickson 2
Class 5A Division II
Georgetown 7, Port Neches-Groves 2: Cade Ereckson struck out four and only allowed two runs in six innings, Cooper Thomas hit a three-run homer, Jaxsen Van Aken belted a two-run single and Gavin Kelley finished 3-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Eagles.
Weiss 10, Kingwood Park 4: Patrick Brock went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, Amari Maxwell and Jace Rodriguez both finished 3-for-4 with a run driven in and Andrew Hunter hit a two-run single as the Wolves finished with 14 hits. Rhema Benjamin went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI and Jordan Benjamin tossed three innings of relief in other impressive performances for Weiss.
Cedar Park 9, Harlingen South 3: Owen Mansfield went 2-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBIs, Mack Galindo finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs and Dominic Naylor went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and two RBIs to pace the Timberwolves. Hudson Cuevas finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in other notable offense for Cedar Park, which received two scoreless innings from Marshall Harvey.

Class 4A Division II
Wimberley 3, Sinton 2: Maverick Jacobs’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to score Cannon Couch gave the Texans a walkoff win. Gentry McGinnis struck out 10 in 6 ⅔ innings and Alex Abrusley had an RBI single for Wimberley. Jacobs and Sage Hall both finished with two hits for the Texans.
