Youssef Zalal will look to enter the top five when he takes on a former champion.
Zalal (18-5-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) meets Aljamain Sterling (20-5 MMA, 17-5 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 274 on April 25 at the Meta APEX (Paramount+). The featherweight bout will headline the event, with Sean Brady vs. Joaquin Buckley possibly shifting to a later date.
Three people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Reporter Leo Guimaraes was first to report the news Wednesday.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Sterling is 2-1 since moving up to 145 pounds. He won his divisional debut against Calvin Kattar, but was then edged out by Movsar Evloev at UFC 310. He returned to the win column when he defeated ex-title challenger Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night 257.
Morocco's Zalal entered the top 10 featherweight rankings when he quickly submitted Josh Emmett at UFC 320 in October. He is 5-0 since rejoining the UFC roster in 2024.
