Damian Pinas has inserted himself into the UFC discourse.
At UFC Fight Night 268, Pinas (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) drilled opponent Wes Schultz multiple times prior to one final blow that finished the job. The finish came at the 2:30 mark of Round 1 of their middleweight bout Saturday at Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
Pinas, 23, smacked Schultz over and over throughout the span of their half-round bout. Schultz abandoned the striking all together, ducking under shots to try to grab a foot. However, Pinas remained measured and and composed and destructively picked Schultz apart en route to the finish.
Pinas remains a knockout machine. The finish was his eighth stoppage due to strikes in nine wins. Schultz comes up short in his first UFC appearance after a Suloev stretch earned him a UFC deal on Dana White's Contender Series in October.
