The NASCAR Cup Series competed at Bristol Motor Speedway and it featured a thrilling finish. After Kyle Larson won the first two stages, Ryan Blaney and Ty Gibbs were in a great spot in the closing laps. However, a late caution caused a split strategy decision, leading to a first career victory in the Cup Series.
Gibbs and the No. 54 team for Joe Gibbs Racing won the Food City 500 at Bristol on Sunday evening, earning their first victory of the 2026 Cup Series season. The driver of the No. 54 car held off Blaney and Larson despite having older tires. Gibbs even had to deal with an overtime restart, barely beating Blaney at the line.
It has been a rough start to the Joe Gibbs Racing driver's career, but everything came together at Bristol. Despite not having the fastest car, Gibbs was able to take advantage of a brilliant strategy call by the No. 54 team. Now, Gibbs can call himself a winner in the Cup Series.
