Jun. 23—PULLMAN — Lewis-Clark Twins coach Micah Brown had "a gut feeling" with his team protecting a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh of Sunday's Palouse Summer Series final.

With the game-tying run at second base and one out, Brown opted to hand the ball to pitcher Carson Henson, who 36 hours prior, had been called up from the Lewis-Clark Cubs.

Henson delivered, inducing a groundout and striking out his final batter to clinch the 4-3 win over Baden Premier 18U of Seattle in the Summer Series American Legion Baseball championship game on Sunday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Earlier that day, the Twins opened their trip to Washington State University's campus with an 8-3 win over the Sweets 18U of Walla Walla.

Henson wasn't just called up to the Twins (10-4); he played an evening game for them immediately after playing Saturday morning for the Cubs. His two hits and three RBI Saturday night helped the Twins advance in Summer Series play and he kept his foot on the gas with three more hits, two RBI and a run across both Sunday games, prior to his lockdown pitching performance.

Brown said that the Lewis-Clark organization wanted Henson to get consistent play at shortstop, so they started his season with the Cubs before tapping him for the upper-level team over the weekend.

The key, Brown said he told Henson, was not to change anything.

"'Just to be the same guy, don't try to do anything special,'" Brown said. "He's a remarkable kid in that he doesn't get too high or too low. He's steady and poised no matter what."

The Twins got all four of their Summer Series championship runs in the sixth inning.

It was all they needed.

Guy Krasselt slapped a three-run triple to give LC a 3-2 lead and scored what would be the winning run on a passed ball in the top of the sixth to back up an excellent pitching performance from Zavier McFee and a save for Henson.

Krasselt, a Lewis-Clark State signee, is a key team leader who has been there, done that, Brown said.

"It's awesome to see him embrace that role and show those younger kids what it means to be a guy the team can depend on," Brown said of Krasselt.

McFee did what he needed to do to enable a championship victory. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits through six innings with two strikeouts and two walks.

Baden took a 2-0 lead over Lewis-Clark in the second inning, then cut the Twins' lead in half in the sixth.

Cal Robbins taxed Baden's pitching with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and a triple in the final. Henson, Collins and Tucker Green each recorded doubles, too, to cap the Summer Series.

Krasselt's three-RBI triple and go-ahead run punctuated a solid Sunday that started with a 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, one-run performance against the Sweets. Ty Collins and Sam Hall each added two hits in that early game.

Lewis-Clark pitcher Guy Peterson kept the Twins' other arms fresh, covering seven innings with three runs (two earned) allowed off six hits. He struck out five and walked four.

The Sweets jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Lewis-Clark showered seven runs in the sixth to take control of the game and hung zeros off the Sweets' side of the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.

The weekend was a sign of what the Twins could do, Brown said.

"It just showed our scrappiness as a team," Brown said. "We kind of shot ourselves in the foot a few times, but we didn't let it derail us."
