Four wickets in four balls: Dasun Shanaka's match-winning final over

Former Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka produced one of the best-ever final-over performances in T20 franchise cricket as the Seattle Orcas (SEO) narrowly defeated the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in an exciting Major League Cricket (MLC) game.

With just 15 runs to defend in the final over, at a time Texas had four wickets in the bag, Shanaka completely turned the tables by getting four batters out in successive balls.

Shanaka's four-wicket haul included the wickets of Donovan Ferreira as the SEO all-rounder finished with figures of 4/26, helping the Orcas defend a modest total of 121/9.

TSK stay rooted to the bottom of the MLC table with six points after eight matches while SEO have moved to second on the table with eight points.

The fourth edition of MLC will conclude on July 18, with the top four sides out of the six making the playoffs that involve Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Challenger matches before the final.

When did Dasun Shanaka last play for Sri Lanka?

The last time Shanaka played for Sri Lanka was in the team's recent T20I series against the West Indies in June 2026. Shanaka's last international appearance was in the third T20I in Kingston on June 14 after participating in the earlier two games. This year, he captained Sri Lanka in the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in their backyard.

He is not part of the Sri Lanka Test team in the ongoing series with West Indies. He was included only for the T20I squad on the tour.

The Sri Lankan Test team is being captained by Dhananjaya de Silva, with Shanaka being a limited-overs specialist without playing any Tests since 2021.

What next for Dasun Shanaka?

Dasun Shanaka's brilliant spell of four wickets should help improve his own confidence levels as well as that of the Orcas in the MLC knockout phase.

As Sri Lanka continues to focus on the Test series in the Caribbean, with Shanaka still not part of the red-ball team, performances like these in domestic cricket will help build his chances of inclusion when Sri Lanka forms its white-ball teams again this year.
