As we continue to wait on Trey Hendrickson to make a decision on where he'll land in free agency, don't count out the Indianapolis Colts.
That rumor comes from ESPN's Stephen Holder, who offered the following:
"Colts were interested in Hendrickson during his holdout last year. I thought they’d moved on, but my understanding now is that we shouldn’t rule them out," Holder reported.
We could know where Hendrickson lands as soon as Wednesday, as The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported the former Pro Bowler is expected to make a decision by then.
The reason behind Hendrickson not signing with anyone up until this point has to do with a worse-than-expected market for the veteran edge rusher.
ESPN's Adam Schefter explained that Hendrickson's market has not been as robust as he thought it would be in terms of how high the offers have been. It is believed he is looking for an annual average somewhere between $30-40 million.
CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported that teams he has spoken to say there is about a $10 million gap between what Hendrickson wants and what teams are willing to offer.
All of this means that the Colts or whoever lands Hendrickson could get him for cheaper than expected.
The reason behind the lackluster market for Hendrickson has to do with his age (31) and the fact that he's coming off an injury-plagued season.
Hendrickson already has a strong tie to the Colts through defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, who was his defensive coordinator in Cincinnati.
