The first week of Tennessee Titans training camp is in the books, and while it's still early, several players have already begun separating themselves from the pack. Between Robert Saleh's demanding practices, Brian Daboll's new-look offense, and a handful of standout performances, week one provided plenty of reasons for optimism. It also provided a few areas of concern.
Here are the biggest winners and losers after the Titans' first three practices of training camp.
It's hard to ask for a better start to camp for the young wide receivers. Tate has consistently been one of Cam Ward's favorite targets throughout offseason training, making contested catches and finding the end zone in red-zone drills. He has looked every bit like the impact receiver Tennessee hoped it drafted with the fourth overall pick.
Second-year wideout Elic Ayomanor arguably made the best catches of the day in each of their final two practices of the week. He might have fallen in the depth chart this season, but his impact is destined to be bigger following a promising rookie season.
Jeffery Simmons continues to dominate, while newcomers John Franklin-Myers and Jermaine Johnson have helped generate consistent pressure. Robert Saleh's defensive philosophy is already showing up with an aggressive front that has disrupted the offense throughout the week.
Ward has shown improved command of Brian Daboll's offense. While there have been a few expected mistakes, his chemistry with Tate, Ayomanor, and Wan'Dale Robinson has stood out. The confidence and leadership expected from a franchise quarterback have also been evident throughout camp.
After an impressive opening practice, the offense struggled to maintain momentum during portions of the second and third days. Defense tends to be ahead of offense in general, so there is still work to do before week one of the regular season kicks off.
Levis is in a contract year with no path forward to proving he's one of the 32-best quarterbacks in the NFL, as he believes he is. He is challenging for the backup role with Mitchell Trubisky, but his days are likely numbered after the Titans signed Trubisky for that role this offseason.
Hooker didn't throw a pass in any of the last two practices, after getting some work on day one. His role will likely be relegated to the practice squad QB once final roster cuts come around.
