Nobody can blame Alontae Taylor for leaving the New Orleans Saints when the Tennessee Titans put a $60 million bag on the table. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Taylor reached an agreement with the Titans on a three-year deal containing $42 million in guarantees -- a big payday for the veteran cornerback. It's a bigger contract than his old teammate Paulson Adebo got from the New York Giants last offseason ($54 million over three years, with $38.5 million guaranteed).
It goes to show just how highly teams coveted Taylor on the open market. He may have had his miscues with the Saints between too many missed tackles and botched coverage assignments, but he made a ton of plays, too. He's the only cornerback with 50 or more passes defensed and 20 or more tackles for loss over the last four years. Take that production with his versatility lining up in the slot and outside, and his prototype size, and you've got a heck of a player.
Good luck to him in Tennessee. Taylor will likely spend much more time guarding the boundary and matching up with opposing WR1's than he did in New Orleans, where the Saints liked to play him from the slot. That set him up to rush the quarterback on designed blitzes and disrupt the run game. He'll still get to do those things with the Titans but with a bigger salary come bigger responsibilities.
