The expectations surrounding Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate continue to grow before he has even played an NFL snap. The fourth overall pick of the 2026 NFL draft has impressed in OTAs and is widely expected to be a big-time contributor in his debut season.
NFL.com editor Gennaro Filice included Tate among the league's 12 rookies who need to succeed immediately in 2026. While that designation may sound like added pressure, it also speaks to how important Tate is to Tennessee's plans for the future. Here's what he had to say about Tate:
Tate's selection came as a surprise, but he was drafted because they believed he could become a foundational piece of the offense. The Titans viewed him as the type of receiver who could help accelerate the development of franchise quarterback Cam Ward, while growing alongside him. That responsibility naturally places Tate among the NFL's most important rookies.
Unlike many rookie receivers who enter the league as complementary options, Tate is expected to play a significant role immediately. His ability to win on the outside, create separation, and make contested catches should provide Ward with a reliable target from Day 1. Also, he will have the luxury of playing beside veterans Wan'Dale Robinson and Calvin Ridley, who have had success in the league.
Tennessee also has reason to believe Tate is prepared for the challenge. He demonstrated the route-running polish, body control, and football intelligence necessary to make an early impact at the professional level while at Ohio State. For a franchise building around a young quarterback, few rookies carry more importance than Carnell Tate entering the 2026 season.
