The Tennessee Titans wrapped up their first padded practice, and afterward their two first-round picks, Keldric Faulk and Carnell Tate, met with the media.
While Tate is basically slotted in as a Day 1 starter at receiver, Faulk is likely to start the year in a rotation with veteran John Franklin-Myers, and that will be a huge advantage for him moving forward. Faulk is talented, but had some noticeable areas where he could use some seasoning.
After practice, Faulk opened up to the media on working with defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, and where he has improved since being drafted.
“Man, I feel like I improved in that just like tremendously, man. Like, he coaches it so well to where it’s no thinking. You know, you don’t have to think about getting off the rock because it’s just natural.” Faulk said, “Man, it’s coming along and my pad level’s gotten way better. Um, he’s taught me little nicks and tricks to keep my pads down. Um, one, it helps me in the run, and it definitely helps me when I’m rushing the passer. So I get a lot more speed, I get a lot more power with my pads down, and then I get to create more space—well, I get to take up more space as my pads are down.”
Faulk should see a high volume of snaps even in a rotational role with the way Robert Saleh and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley utilize their defensive linemen. Faulk, who was once considered a potential top 5 pick, will have a chance to make an impact during his rookie season.
