Tigers' rotation set: When Justin Verlander lines up to pitch in Comerica Park

Detroit – Friday morning in Clearwater, Fla., Tigers manager AJ Hinch set his pitching rotation for the 2026 season.

There were no surprises at the top, where he’d previously set reigning two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal, who will start Opening Day in San Diego on March 26, and Framber Valdez, who will start Game 2 on March 27.

Jack Flaherty will pitch the finale in San Diego, with Justin Verlander and Casey Mize going the first two games against the Diamondbacks in Phoenix.

That lines up for Valdez to start the home opener at Comerica Park, Friday April 3, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Verlander is set to make his return to Comerica Park as a Tiger on NBC Sunday Baseball on April 5. Verlander last pitched there in a Tigers’ uniform on April 20, 2017.

Skubal’s first home start lines up to be April 12 against the Miami Marlins.
