Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover car accident and has been charged with driving under the influence with property damage.

The golfer was involved in a two-car accident in Jupiter, Florida on Friday afternoon, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. There were no injuries to either driver, but police say Woods showed signs of impairment and refused a urinalysis test. While Woods blew a 0.00 on a Breathalyzer test for alcohol, authorities believe he had “some type of medication or drug” in his system, per the Sheriff’s office.

“We know we arrested a high-profile figure,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said. “I’m not trying to dramatize it, but it doesn’t matter who you are: If you break the law, we’re going to follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take. Now, as far as being in the jail, we’re going to make sure he’s safe. We’re not going to put him in general population. He’s not going to be with other inmates that could hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did. He’ll pay the price, but he’s not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail.”

Woods was also charged with driving under the influence in 2017, but took part in a first-time DUI offender program and ultimately just pleaded guilty to reckless driving. He was sentenced to a year of probation and avoided jail time.

This was not Woods’ first rollover accident. In 2021, he was involved in another in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, where he sustained significant injuries, including compound fractures in his right leg and a broken ankle. After the accident, Woods said he wasn’t sure whether his leg would need to be amputated.

“There was a point in time when, I wouldn’t say it was 50/50, but it was damn near there if I was going to walk out of that hospital with one leg,” Woods told Golf Digest after the 2021 crash. “Once I [kept it], I wanted to test and see if I still had my hands. So even in the hospital, I would have [girlfriend] Erica [Herman] and [friend] Rob [McNamara] throw me something. Throw me anything.”

Woods was able to return to the game and has been playing a few PGA Tour tournaments a year before rupturing his Achilles last March.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump broke the news that Woods wasn’t planning on playing in next month’s Masters tournament. Asked who he’d be picking to win, Trump revealed Woods wasn’t competing.

“I love Tiger, but he won’t be there. Well, he’ll be there, but he won’t be playing in it,” Trump said on Fox News. “It’s hard for me. If I pick somebody, I’m going to have enemies, I’m going to have 10 guys who won’t speak to me.”
