Russell Westbrook spent the first 11 years of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which is the same team that drafted him fourth overall during the 2008 NBA Draft.
It was also with the Thunder where Westbrook won the MVP title during the 2016-17 season.
Westbrook has been around the block since leaving OKC in 2019, having been with five other teams after parting ways with the Thunder. The Denver Nuggets are the nine-time All-Star's sixth team in what has been a colorful 16-year career.
Oklahoma City holds a dear place in Westbrook's heart, though. After all, this is where it all started for him.
As it turns out, the Thunder fans also feel the same way about their former superstar. This was evident as the home crowd at Paycom Center gave Westbrook a warm ovation the moment he checked into Monday's Game 1 matchup.
The Thunder faithful were on their feet as they watched Westbrook enter the game at the 5:17 mark of the first quarter. Before the game, the nine-time All-NBA point guard said that OKC is "like home" for him and that he "always got love for everybody there."
The fans made it extremely clear on Monday night that they, too, have a lot of love for Westbrook.

It wasn't the desired result for OKC supporters in Game 1, though, as the Nuggets escaped with a 121-119 victory to steal away home court. Westbrook chipped in with 18 points off the bench on 7-of-13 shooting, to go along with two rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes of action.
There's no denying that Westbrook has nothing but love for the Thunder and Oklahoma City, but you can also be sure that the two-time scoring champion will do everything in his power to take them out in this series.
