The Los Angeles Lakers Summer League squad is gearing up for its multi-week adventure in San Francisco and Las Vegas, and there are some names, as always, to watch out for other than the marquee ones.
Cameron Carr, whom the Lakers traded up one spot to draft, out of Baylor, is the name that everyone will be watching due to the hype around him as an obvious steal.
He is a long, rangy wing who can shoot and has shown on-ball creation juice as well. Carr could be a perfect player next to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and Summer League will give fans their first taste of what he offers.
Additionally, there is Adou Thierro, last year’s second-round pick, whom the team bought. He missed time due to an injury that kept him from getting much NBA run, but his body type and defense make him a player the Lakers will need come the regular season.

Chris Manon, whom the Lakers signed to a two-way contract, is another player the organization is interested in because of his defense.
However, apart from those three standouts on the squad, there are a handful of intriguing Summer League invites that could provide some promise.
Okereke is a six-foot-seven-inch forward who offers some defensive versatility on the swings and can create off the dribble.
His jump shot will make or break his NBA future, but if he can figure out the mechanics and reach even league-average, he could become a role player.
Suder has some quality size for a guard and shoots the ball very well. He was one of the main players powering Miami Ohio to their great season.
In addition to his shooting, Suder can playmake well and read the floor, enhancing his status as an offensive player.
Do not be surprised if Suder steals the show and puts up big numbers, especially if the shot is clicking. The real thing to watch with Suder will be his defense and how his athleticism holds up against marginal NBA talent.
If he can not stand out like a sore thumb, the Lakers could have another hidden gem on their hands.
Avila is a real star who lit up the college basketball world, earning a whole host of nicknames, including “Cream Abdul-Jabbar.” He is strictly on an Exhibit-10 contract, which means he is fighting for his NBA future, as this is only a Summer League tryout.
There are serious questions about Avila’s viability in the NBA — he lacks the mobility to fit in the modern NBA and relies on high usage to be productive.
Without a doubt, he was productive in college, averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds on a 59.7% effective field goal rate.
Even if Avila does not get a chance in the NBA from his time with the Lakers, he is lined up to make some fun Summer League moments.
