The recently dominant BostonRed Sox will have to play twice today, after rain postponed their Tuesday game.
Ever since a June 25 victory against the New York Yankees, the Boston team have stacked up consecutive wins against the Yankees, the Washington Nationals, the Los Angeles Angels, the Chicago White Sox, the New York Mets, and the Tampa Bay Rays in the past month or so.
On July 20, the Old Towne Team triumphed in a close game against the Baltimore Orioles. That game broke off Baltimore's own winning streak and completed a string of 14 straight victories for Boston.
The Red Sox will have to play a doubleheader against the Orioles, with the first game in the afternoon and the second game at night. If they win the first game, they match an 80-year-old record. If they win again tonight, the Red Sox set a new one.
The Boston franchise's longest string of wins happened 80 years ago as the late Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams helped lead the Red Sox to 15 straight wins. That winning streak began on April 25, 1946, and ended May 10 of that same year.
While Boston may not have "The Thumper" and his legendary .344 career batting average anymore, the Red Sox have first baseman Willson Contreras, who has batted .289 for the 2026 season.
If the Red Sox win their first game today, then they will have tied with Williams-era Sox. They win the second game today, the 2026 Boston Red Sox will be setting a new record for longest winning streak in the team's history at 16 consecutive wins.
First pitch for the afternoon game is set for 1:35 p.m. ET today, July 22.
First pitch for the evening Red Sox-Orioles game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET tonight, July 22.
Today's games will be airing on NESN (New England Sports Network).
