The Jonathon Brooks hype train is boarding after impressive showing at Panthers OTAs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jonathon Brooks will hopefully make his return to the football field in 2026 after two brutal seasons to begin his career.
After suffering his second torn ACL in a calendar year during the 2024 campaign, Brooks spent all of last season recovering from the injury.
But the 2024 second-round pick is now healthy and taking part in practice, and the Texas product is shining early on at Carolina Panthers OTAs.
The Athletic's Joe Person revealed that Brooks took one handoff from quarterback Bryce Young 30 yards to the house during one rep.
Then, the Charlotte Observer's Alex Zietlow pointed out another highlight from Brooks on a screen pass while noting how good the running back looks.
"Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks makes another play — this time a screen. He looks … good," Zietlow reported.
Based on video coming out of practice, Brooks looks to be moving well, and the two aforementioned plays drive that point home further.

This is all great to see and we can only hope Brooks will continue building on what he has shown early on en route to rebounding and getting his NFL career on track.
Jonathon Brooks' 2026 outlook
After letting Rico Dowdle walk in free agency, the Panthers have cleared the way for Brooks to at least serve as the RB2 behind Chuba Hubbard.
Brooks will have to battle for the job with 2025 draft pick Trevor Etienne, who is his stiffest form of competition for the role.
There's still a long way to go this offseason, but right now Brooks is in good shape to have a significant role in Carolina's offense in 2026.
