The fans booed and the media chortled when Cotton announced the selection of Dan Marjele (sp) in the NBA draft a few years ago. Yet Dan turned out be a great pick.

Maybe the selection of Pace will turn out the same for the Cards. However, I am not holding my breath. I don't think Pace is a football player like Dan was basketball player and I don' believe the Cards general manager has as much football savvy as Cotton has when it comes to basketball.

However, I sure hope I'm wrong.

Phinius, I have posted exactly the same thing.

And Pace DOES seem to have all the measurables to be a good all around DE. He's Physically bigger and faster than Suggs, and no one that's ever actually seen him play has anything but good to say about him.

Especially when you see who the boo birds here are right now, I'm not too concerned.

Yeah, and the fans in Salt Lake City also booed when the Jazz took John Stockton...

Far off base

I am actually a pretty upbeat guy. But I call a spade a spade.

I have stated I liked the Johnson and Boldin picks. I just don't know how much better we are from last season...unless you think Blake/Smith are huge upgrades over Plummer/Shipp (could be!)

There are drafts that get you fired up for next season. There are drafts that get you dreaming of the Super Bowl a few years down the line.

We don't have either of those right now and I fail to see how anyone can run around and make excuses for the Cardinals on every thread.

This is definitely a "prove it" draft.

The Boldin and Johnson picks just might save this draft for us....eveything else looks like a crap shoot.

I remember that everyone criticized the suns for their picks last year of Amare Stoudamire and C. Jacobsen. They seemed to work out just fine. Its too late to whine would they could have picked. I think Pace will be a solid pass rusher. Personally I would be pumped if he had 6 sacks. That pathetic but true at the same time.

Well, Amare Stoudemire has worked out fantastically for the Phoenix Suns. Casey Jacobsen has done next to nothing.

With his workout numbers and the run on defensive lineman I have trouble believing the Cardinals could have drafted Pace with their second-round pick. Its arguable whether they could have had him with the 34th pick. But I don't think that's really the important question.. To me the real question is what they have been better off taking a player at another position who was truly worthy of the 18th pick.

Looking back over 50+ years, when weird things are done in the draft and criticized by knowledgeable fans (the Giant fans who boo'd the selection of Phil Simms and the Philly fans who boo'd McNabb weren't knowledgeable nor were the picks particularly wierd) those picks invariably turn out to be busts.

When I think of the guys we could have drafted at #6 I want to puke now that the draft is over. We are going to be looking at some pro bowlers in that top ten.
