The UIL state track and field meet opened Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium with strong performances across multiple events, setting the tone for two more days of competition in one of the nation’s deepest high school meets.
Early events featured fast times in distance races and competitive field events, while sprint and relay finals later in the meet are expected to draw national attention.
The opening day highlighted the statewide depth of talent, with athletes from both large metro areas and smaller programs competing for medals across classifications.
The three-day meet continues Friday and Saturday, when many of the marquee sprint and relay finals will be contested.
