After one year with the Texas Longhorns, Simeon Wilcher is moving on. The talented point guard has reportedly entered the transfer portal for the second time in his college career. As Wilcher looks for a school that can maxizimize his skills, the Longhorns will have to focus on improving their depth. In his only season with Texas, Wilcher appeared in 36 games and shot 33.7 percent from three-point range. The New Jersey native averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. While Wilcher worked his way into the rotation, he struggled to put points on the board and was not much of a factor in the NCAA Tournament.
During the Longhorns' March Madness run, Wilcher scored two points in 30 minutes of action. He also hauled in six rebounds and dished out six assists. Despite getting ten minutes of playing time in each of the Longhorns three games, the Roselle Catholic High Alum went 1-6 from the field.
Before calling Austin home, Wilcher spent the first two years of his college career at St. John's. His best season came as a sophomore when he averaged a career high eight points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. At his next stop, Wilcher hopes to get back to those numbers with only one year of eligibility remaining.
While his time in Austin did not go as planned, Wilcher should have plenty of options. He was a productive depth player at St. John's and Texas, which will be valuable to teams looking to improve their bench with a proven option who has played in big moments.
