Texas A&M basketball coach Bucky McMillan's first season at the helm was a massive success, ending in a second-round loss to Houston in the NCAA Tournament, while the Aggies finished with a respectable 22-12 record, including 11 wins in SEC play. On paper, McMillan is ahead of schedule after inheriting just one player from former coach Buzz Williams, having to rebuild his first roster from the transfer portal.

Coming from Samford, only one of his former roster members followed McMillan to College Station, as junior guard Josh Holloway provided depth in a deep rotation, averaging 4.6 PPG and 1.6 APG, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.

Early in the season, Holloway recorded three consecutive double-digit scoring performances, while his 12 points against Houston included two threes that kept the Aggies in the game early on. Still, Holloway's future on the roster was never guaranteed after the 2025-2026 season, likely believing he is skilled and experienced enough to start or to regain his sixth-man role from his final season with Samford.

On Saturday night, it was revealed that Holloway plans to re-enter the transfer portal, where he could return to the Group of Five level during his season. A Memphis, Tennessee native, heading closer to home wouldn't be surprising, while playing in a similar up-tempo scheme will be preferred.

McMillan is expected to pursue some of the top available guards as soon as the transfer portal opens on Tuesday, April 7. It's also possible that Holloway could return to the roster after mulling his transfer options.
